About Us

The Charente Limousine Exchange was initially founded in 2003 as a small informal group of non-French nationals living in the area who wanted to meet other people to exchange news, views, ideas and information. As the number of non-French nationals within the region continued to increase, and with it an increased level of interest in the group, it was felt necessary to put the group on a formal footing. The Charente Limousine Exchange was formed as an Association within French law in October 2004, with a registered address centrally located at the social centre in Confolens. Over the last year numbers of interested people have expanded to include British, German, Dutch, French and American members living in a wide area centered on Confolens.

The objectives of the association have been clearly defined and concentrate on improving the provision of French language courses, sharing experience, skills and knowledge between members, providing information to members on living and working in France and working with the local community to tackle practical isses relating to the rise in non-French nationals within the region. We also organise social and cultural activities.

The Association is run entirely by volunteers who organise a varied programme of events throughout the year. An excellent rapport has been established with many local authorities and we are continually looking for ways to expand upon these relationships. One recent success has been the launch of English language courses which have been very well attended by local Confolentais.

With so much to offer and many more ideas to pursue, the Charente Limousine Exchange felt it time to take to a wider audience all the knowledge gained so far hence the idea of creating a website was born. It has taken almost a year to develop a product suitable for launching, but it is packed with masses of useful information. It will be continually reviewed to ensure the information is as up to date as possible. Whilst the site has been created in English, there is an online system enabling translation into eight languages.
